A Popular Walk to Lac Blanc
One of my favourite walks to take guests on during a Summer Holiday in the Alps is Lac Blanc, probably the most famous walk in the Chamonix valley.
We start by taking the cable car to Flegere which has great views across the valley to the Mont Blanc Massif. From here a well signed path takes us uphill with increasingly stunning views before a steep final climb brings us to Lac Blanc.
This is a very popular walk and the paths around Lac Blanc itself are always busy. However a couple of years ago, we arrived at the lakeside in a snow storm. We found the place was virtually deserted and Lac Blanc was frozen and covered in snow. So much for a Summer Holiday in the Alps.
We reckon that as great lunch stops on a Pinnacle Walking Holiday go, Lac Blanc is hard to beat; our views to the Mer de Glace and the Dru are always awesome. The next section of the walk takes us down to the Lacs des Cheserys. This forms part of the the Tour du Mont Blanc path. We have been lucky in the past to have seen ibex here.
