Best Hikes in the Alps

Mer de Glace seen on a French Alps walking holiday is one of the best hikes in the alps

The walk between Plan de l’Aiguille and Montenvers Chamonix is one of the best hikes in the Alps.
Walk Description.
Take the first stage of the Aiguille du Midi to Plan l’Aiguille. Here is a great place to linger and gaze at the surrounding mountains, maybe the chance to see a marmot.
Follow the Grand Balcon Nord path with stunning views across the Chamonix valley until a path junction is reached in approximately one and a half hours. Take the steep zig zag path which leads to Signal Forbes with awesome views of the Drus and the Mer de Glace.
Guests on our French Alps walking holiday love to stop here for lunch. From here it’s all downhill to Montenvers where we pick up the railway and return to Chamonix.
We find the Cicerone Guide books describe some of the best hikes in the Alps.
